Wendy Collinson-Jonker

B.Ed

Wendy Collinson-Jonker is a conservation scientist with a deep commitment to improving biodiversity outcomes through applied research, education, and community engagement. She recently joined the Southern African Wildlife College (SAWC) where she leads the Conservation Science thematic area, contributing to curriculum development, longitudinal ecological studies, and capacity building for conservation practitioners across the region.

Prior to joining SAWC, Wendy spent over a decade at the Endangered Wildlife Trust (EWT), where she managed road ecology programmes and later led broader biodiversity monitoring initiatives. Her work has consistently focused on translating ecological data into actionable strategies that support both species conservation and inclusive governance.

Wendy is also affiliated with COAPE International, where she contributes as a tutor and course lecturer. Her background in animal behaviour and welfare complements her conservation work, particularly in the areas of human–wildlife conflict, monitoring, and adaptive management.

With a strong foundation in systems thinking and a passion for community-based conservation, Wendy brings a collaborative and interdisciplinary approach to her work—bridging science, policy, and practice to support more resilient ecosystems and empowered communities.
